Citizens
Yo, so check it out. You don’t have to be a professional MC, Rapper, DeeJay, Producer, Graf Writer, Bboy or Bgirl to be HipHop. This goes out to all who either spit rhymes, work the 1’s & 2’s, make instrumentals, Break, Tag, or sprayed a piece simply out of love. I’ll like to address this select group as, The Citizens of HipHop. It’s more than just a genre & we’re more than just fans. Citizens practice one or more elements, speak the language, know the history, respect the founders, witnessed displays of elemental mastery & recognize HipHop when they see it.
My request for the Citizens of HipHop is simple. Create a profile of yourself. Introduce your HipHop persona if you have one. Tell us about your foundation in the Kulture. Describe major HipHop moments. Show off your skills if you want. Feel free to use this space to represent & be acknowledged but for those who can, use it to educate & guide. Let’s teach HipHop Kulture beyond the music.
HipHop is just a bit shy of being fifty years old. Culturally speaking, we’re still in the infancy stage. At a point our elders still walk among us. We have to take advantage of this opportunity & define the aspects of a true HipHoppa. Create & abide to an OvaStandn’ Agreement. We need to give structure to our beliefs so that we can solidify a heritage for our successors.
This invitation goes out to each & every Citizen of HipHop. Most of us will probably never pursue a professional career in Da Indastree but we all have a role in this. We will be the ones who orchestrate the next shift & become the cultivators of our Kulture.
